About our factory Open Joint-Stock Company "VELAN" well-known in CIS and abroad as the plant "ELECTROAPPARAT"- is a unique electrical industry enterprise specialized in low-voltage explosion-proof electrical equipment production.
The plant's production have been successfully applied for already 45 years in mines, oil and gas industry, agricultural industry, dwelling houses, thermoelectric and nuclear power stations, in space, military centers, in machine works and elsewhere where dangerously explosive gasses may evolve in the course of manufacturing process.
These industries' workers know that the plant's "ELECTROAPPARAT" production is noted for its HIGH QUALITY, RELIABILITY and NO-FAILURE OPERATION in any climate - from far north to the tropics.
History
The plant's background started on 23rd of October, in 1958. DROKIN YAKOV DANILOVICH was appointed as the plant's first director.By the end of 1959 the plant got its first production plan - to produce 10 thousand of KUV2 push-button stations. The plant "ELECTROAPPARAT" gradually grew, new production and technologies were introduced, the plant's equipment was updated, and the plant's personnel were formed from workers and technical staff with high professional skills. Almost from its first days the plant cooperated with a number of research institutions in Donetsk, Kemerovo, Makeevka, Stavropol and with other planning organizations and creative teamwork. This cooperation let design high quality equipment to provide safe working conditions in buildings, where dangerously explosive gasses and explosive mixtures may evolve in the course manufacturing process. The plant's equipment grew more and more famous within the USSR and abroad, it got more and more new markets. There was hardly any region in the USSR where the plant's "ELECTROAPPARAT" production wasn't used. The plant's equipment was exported to almost 40 foreign countries.
The plant faced Perestroika with great hopes to independence and free market relations, and consequently to further development of the plant. Unfortunately these hopes were not destined to be realized: lack of funds, breakup of manufacturing relations, crippling taxes, consumers' pressure for money, closing of mines, suspension of oil wells, drop in natural gas production - all these led to extremely hard and catastrophic consequences.
First attempts to come out of a recession were made in 1990, when during the works meeting it was decided to have the plant on lease. The plant's promoters became The Ministry of electrical industry and the plant's working staff. Open Joint-Stock Company "VELAN" (which in Russian is an abbreviation from low-voltage explosion-proof electrical equipment production) was registered on September 5, 1991.
Unfortunately from the very beginning of Open Joint-Stock Company's existence it experienced those destructive processes, which led our country to such a difficult economic condition in which it still stays. The works management did its best to save the plant, personnel and manufacturing process. They have mastered production of new explosion-proof and industrial equipment, renewed licenses and acknowledgment letters, and took various measures for economic development.
As a result the plant still exists. Not without reason we are proud of our plant, its wonderful working staff and production. We do believe that notwithstanding all difficulties the plant will revive again and be able to work for the welfare of Russia.
Awards
 Open Joint-Stock Company "VELAN" is a frequent participant of electrical industry production exhibitions, and it was awarded for high engineering performance standard of electrical production at such exhibitions as "Electro 72", "Electro 77", "Electro 87", "Ugol 90" and some others.
The plant had won his fame before Perestroika, but nowadays this fame is still confirmed in foreign business circles.
In 1996 Europe business club awarded a prize "For high quality production-96" to the plant. The prize was given in Paris in the presence of trade representatives of the countries accredited in France and business representatives of Europe, Africa and the USA.
In 1998 the Committee of the X USA International Prize "For high quality production" awarded "X USA Golden Prize "For high quality production"" to the plant.
The association "Monde Sans Frontiere" (France) - program "Partnership for Progress" coordinator, awarded the plant "Golden Mercury" prize.
In 1996 Joint-Stock Company "VELAN" got Certificate of the Russian Federation "The leader of the Russian economy", in which the following is said: "The present Certificate confirms that Open Joint-Stock Company "VELAN" is one of 5000 enterprises having "The leader of the Russian economy" status.".
